Football in Bhutan is growing beyond its borders, as more Bhutanese players find opportunities on the international stage. Sangay Yoezer, who played for RTC FC, is the latest to join an overseas club. He has signed with Bangladesh PWD SC, a top division team in Bangladesh Football League. The move marks his first international signing and the right back will spend the next three months with the club.
Sangay began playing football on the streets at the age of eight, slowly building his skills and passion for the game.
His hard work paid off last year when he was selected for the senior national team ahead of Bhutan’s second-round match against Yemen.
Over the years, he has represented the country at Under-17, Under-23, and senior international levels.
Before joining PWD SC, he played a season with RTC FC.
Sangay sees the move as a fresh challenge and an opportunity not just for his own career, but also for many Bhutanese footballers aspiring to make football a viable profession.
“I am delighted to have the opportunity to play for PWD Sport Club. Organ, who currently plays for Bangladesh Police FC, helped me secure this chance. Playing abroad has been a childhood dream of mine, and I am very much looking forward to performing well as I begin this new chapter of my career.”
Sangay hopes to use this opportunity to showcase Bhutanese football on the international stage and inspire young talents back home.
“PWD are currently placed ninth in the Bangladesh Football League, and the season has not gone well so far. I hope to give my best and make a positive contribution to the team.”
PWD SC is a professional football club based in Bangladesh, and currently competes in the top-tier Bangladesh Football League.
As he begins this new chapter, Sangay hopes to repay the club’s trust with strong performances while carrying Bhutanese football onto a bigger international stage.
