Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay graced the Passing Out Parade of the 44th Batch of Officer Cadets and the 57th Batch of Recruits at the Royal Bhutan Police Training Institute at Jigmeling in Gelephu today. The 57th Batch, comprising 303 recruits, is a special intake. They were trained under a newly designed curriculum to meet the changing policing needs of the Gelephu Mindfulness City project.
Unlike previous intakes, the 57th Batch of Recruits (Maksars) underwent training under a newly redesigned curriculum to meet emerging policing needs linked to the Gelephu Mindfulness City. The training comprised six months of foundational training, followed by two months of specialised instruction.
During the basic course, recruits were trained in three broad areas. Legal Studies focused on major laws, minor acts, and police regulations. Police Science covered investigation, forensic science, intelligence-led and community policing, and digital literacy. Social Science focused on mental resilience, communication skills, human rights, ethical policing, leadership, and professional conduct.
Following the basic training, recruits underwent specialisation training based on organisational needs. These included public order and riot control, critical infrastructure and VIP security, fire and rescue services, emergency and disaster response, traffic management, prison security, and canine services.
Recognising the Royal Bhutan Police as a pillar of peace and stability, the Prime Minister described the passing-out parade as historic.
“This is a historic day for all of us. You have been given opportunities to learn far more than any previous batch at the training institute. The training you underwent was personally developed under the guidance of His Majesty The King and meets international standards. As you graduate today, you will play a vital role in maintaining peace and stability in the Gelephu Mindfulness City and in building a strong foundation for this national project.”
Likewise, the event saw the successful graduation of the 44th Batch of Officer Cadets, comprising 15 cadets, 10 men and 5 women, who completed an intensive 18-month training programme.
With drills complete and oaths taken, the graduates stepped out of the training ground, ready to serve the nation and safeguard peace in Gelephu Mindfulness tour.
