Football clubs and associations have long seen limited participation of women in administrative roles. To address this gap, the Bhutan Football Federation, in collaboration with FIFA, is conducting a three-day FIFA Capacity Building Programme for Administrators. The initiative aims to strengthen football administration and governance in Bhutan, with a particular focus on women’s football.
Two FIFA experts are facilitating the workshop, which seeks to enhance administrative competence, leadership skills, and good governance practices across football institutions.
“An administrator is one of the key factors in developing the women’s game. Without them, the club might be facing some issues or challenges. So, the leadership skill that we provide here for the administrator is because we want to empower them and bring out the best in the administrators of the Bhutan women’s football club,” said Natcha Tarateerasarn, FIFA Women’s Football Expert.
Officials say the initiative will help build stronger, women-led institutional capacity within the football system.
“We rarely see women in football administration and management, and this creates challenges for women players. Through this workshop, we aim to encourage more women to take up administrative roles in clubs, associations, districts, and the federation,” said Karma Choki, Women’s Coordinator, BFF.
The training covers key areas such as leadership, good governance, communication, and media management. It also focuses on administrative management, financial planning, grassroots football development, club licensing, and safeguarding.
“Starting this year, we are beginning the grassroots programme for women. I believe this workshop will be highly beneficial to us. So, I promise that I will share the knowledge that I got here after I get back to my association,” said Kunga Chophel, Instructor, Rinpung Sports Association.
“The basic thing in any organisation is that communication is very important. Whenever you communicate, it should be clear and concise. I have also learned about safety and security, how it leads to the development of football in Bhutan, and also how to manage different personnel who are involved in the football administration,” said Sujata Pradan, Coach, UA FC.
